When Chris decided to take some time out to study for his commercial rating, I
had a second instructor David Sutcliffe. At first, I was concerned that having a
second instructor was going to be detrimental, and that I was going to have to
learn how he worked before we moved forward. Contrary to my fears, I found that
having a second view on things was helpful to my progress, and I could immediately
see which areas of flying were written in stone and which could be tackled from another viewpoint.
I took my first solo flight under the instruction of David Sutcliffe on 26 October 2004.
When he made me land out on the airfield, then he got out and told me to fly a circuit,
I was very, very nervous, but it is a day I will never forget.
