Once I decided that I was going to get my licence, I looked at all
the local flying schools within reach. I eventually settled on Aeromega Ltd.
based at Cambridge airport. For me, they were a very serious outfit that offered
a good price and looked to be very professional. I have never regretted this
decision, and many people with whom I have come into contact since, have
expressed respect for the professionalism of Aeromega, so have in turn had a
high regard for the quality of the training I received.
Before I started flying, I read books on the principles of flight to find out
what I was letting myself in for. The one I found a very useful introduction to
learning to fly is the 'Helicopter Pilot's Handbook'
by Norman Bailey.
Another book that I found most useful was
'Principles of Helicopter Flight' by
W.J. Wagtendonk.
My training at Aeromega started on 29 May 2009 with instructor Chris Sherriff. Chris was
my sole instructor throughout the first hours of my training. He taught me to
fly the R22 and we got on well.
